The confronted democracy: neoliberal emergency and political crisis (1990-1994)
Our object of study is the process of emergence of the neoliberal project as a guiding element of the governmental action in a situation of extension of the crisis of bourgeois hegemony initiated in the 80s and of precarious validity of the democratic institutionality recently installed in the Brazilian State. The analysis of this period is fundamental both for the understanding of the contradictory relations between the democratic institutionality installed in 1988 and the interests of the power bloc after the crisis of the developmentalist state; as well as the characterization of the peculiarities of neoliberalism in Brazil, its social base of support and the movement of resistance to its implantation.
