This course aims to present new approaches to the study of the Cold War in Latin America. Recently, new research and debates have focused on the meaning of the Cold War in Latin America, its origins and its protagonists. Similarly, this literature pays particular attention to the degree of involvement of the superpowers and to the relevance of bipolar conflict at local, regional and global levels. For this reason, the course will address specific case studies and students will be encouraged to explore intra-regional and transnational Cold War dynamics. The course will be based mainly on the study and discussion of this literature. Students will also be encouraged to consult transcripts of oral history interviews as well as primary sources available online.
