Process for admission to the Masters and Doctoral Courses
Every year the PPGH organizes a selection process for admission to the Masters and Doctoral courses in History. Candidates for the Masters course must have a degree in history or related subjects and those wishing to enter the doctoral course must have a Masters in History or some related field of knowledge. Registration for the selection process usually takes place in August and there are four stages to it in the period from September to November. The first stage is eliminatory. Candidates take an examination in a second language (Spanish, French or English). The second stage is also eliminatory and candidates sit a test of their knowledge of History theory. In the third stage candidates present and defend their research projects before a board of examiners consisting of professors and teachers from the areas related to the candidate’s research project. Lastly candidates’ curricula are graded. The last two stages are of a classificatory nature. Enrolment for selected candidates usually takes place at the end of February or the beginning of March in the year following that of the Selection Process.
The number of vacancies in the courses varies according to the availability of vacancies offered by the respective PPGH academic staff
The Program offers two scholarships for the Masters course and two for the Ph.D. course. In recent years the Research Support Fund of the Goias State government has offered four new scholarships a year (2 for the Masters course and two for the PhD course)
24 months are allowed for the student to conclude Masters degree studies and for a PhD, 48 months are allowed.
