The biographies about Simón Bolívar: the heroic culture and the Bolivarian cult

Description: Taking as a source two biographies written about Simón Bolívar (that of Salvador de Madariaga, 1953 and that of Gehard Masur, 1960) and starting from the central hypothesis that they contributed to the constitution and consolidation of a cult around the historical actor, being, therefore, the expression of the heroification and detraction that involves this emblematic character, this project aims to present such writings in detail and methodically. By also considering that memory, heroic culture and the Bolivarian cult, analyzed together, allow us to question historiography about South America's independencies, the intention is to explore the fertile relations between the political imaginary, Latin American political culture and biographical writing.
